if you're gifted vip, and your vip gets taken plus the person who gifted it gets banned, that means the vip purchase the other person made was fraudulent. i've seen it happen to someone before, around a year ago

Yep this is correct
 
So basically what the user did was this. The user gave you vip. And most likely requested a refund so they got the money back. And obv the vip will be removed
