Lack of friends.

I've turned eighteen recently - and noticed that I haven't made at least one, long-lasting friend. As in, I had acquaintaces I might've done something with together, or perhaps frequently talked in the shared spaces (Sports sections, school; Right now - university.), but the connection has not lasted past that.

From what I observed, friends are made through a bonding experience - it's usually something beyond just a common activity, perhaps something life-altering or just intense (People bond over trauma in cases, even). I've only gotten through something similar alone, or with family; I'd like to ask people here, how did you make friends, or are making them currently? I've just been busy so much that I frequently even forget about it (Friends).

Well, I make friends through my gym, its a tight knit community, but then again every gym is different. My long lasting friends have been from church, but thats iffy if you're not religious. Maybe something you really like, a hobby, drawing painting robotics ect, there's always groups, you could try some of those and meet new people. Try to find people along the same wavelength as you. That helps majorly in keeping friends.

I agree with church bonds, we've always had close friends and a special bond but I won't get into that topic haha. It is amazing... But since we've all grown up as they always say nothing ever lasts and each depart to their own. I struggle so much with looking for friends or making friends, I've always been one to remain quiet and to myself. I swear I'm not mean or anything nor give off the wrong 'vibe' I just don't know how to talk to people neither keep them entertained. Most I've had throughout my college classes were amazing, they were sweet, funny and the best you could imagine but never kept in contact with them in which I regret.

I always thought to myself and have seen, if you're not those popular kids and or not in any sports you're never going to be recognized nor seen. As we become older we are left alone and at times left behind, it is hard to communicate and or attempt to speak to people nowadays because they're all different. I always and I don't know how to think differently or snap out of it but I always feel like I'm a bother, especially to my online friends. I always think it's best to stay quiet but they tell me I'm wrong.

I agree with you.. And I wonder the same. I struggle with making friends only because I have not come out of my bubble and need to let myself go. Let myself explore and let things go little by little. (':

Sometimes it's better to be alone... I'm like that but want to have a few around me as it looks nice and fun. Busy schedules or always being occupied does get annoying and makes it harder but I'm sure any and all go through the same and somehow manage to make friends. Whether they're classmates or sports. Me personally college is soooo much better than high school, the environment, the people, just so much.

I appreciate your advice, people. Sorry for the late reply, BTW. I think I can try other methods, but not chruch bonds - since you're supposed to stand silently in the Orthodox Churches I attend.

I relate to this really, I left school at 16, in 2022. I no longer talk to anyone (except fro my boyfriend) who i went to school with. I dont go anywhere to meet new people, and I work with just myself and my aunt. I struggle with anxiety so even if I do on the rare occasion go out I wouldn't talk to anyone. I rarely go to church events with my grandma, and nobody my age attends those, just elderly people which aren't too bad to talk to sometimes but its not the same.
