Period advice

Hey there! I just joined so apologies if this isn’t allowed but I need help. For context I am 17 years old and have had an irregular period since 12. There is no chance I could be pregnant and I’m not on any form of birth control or medication.

I had spotting on Mon 2 June then it stopped then Tues 3 June is whenever I got my period which lasted for 7 days. Ever since my period ended I’ve had spotting for aprox 9 days now it use to happen once a day but yesterday it happened 2-3 times and more heavier. I’m fine this week but last week I also had other symptoms such as feeling unmotivated, nauseous etc. I’m a figure skater when when I had my lesson on Saturday I was overheating, felt really dizzy, nauseas and felt like I was going to throw up.

What I’m wanting to know is if this is normal or if it’s not normal so I can go get it checked out because I’ve googled spotting but it’s given me different reasons so I’m not sure

Periods are definitely different for every woman so its difficult to say whether it's normal or not. However Periods shouldn't be causing significant pain, they're meant to only feel uncomfortable. Spotting can be normal after you've heavy bled for a few days. If you're feeling unsure I would recommend speaking to a trusted adult or maybe going to get it checked out just to be sure.
From personal experience, I had irregular periods, I went 6 months without having a period then suddenly had heavy bleeding. I later decided to get the contraceptive implant which has stopped my periods entirely.

Thank you! Yeah I thought I’d ask since google gave different reasons for spotting and I haven’t experienced it before so I wasn’t sure if I should be concerned or not. I’ll probably wait and see what my next cycle is like

Periods are just really annoying and everyone I know seems to experience different symptoms and problems. Not sure what Country you are from, but would really recommend visiting your local family planning clinic as the nurses there are really good at offering help, advice and support in a relaxed atmosphere. I have always found them really helpful and the service is free.

I’m not a doctor, but honestly I’d probably get it checked just to be safe. Having an irregular period can happen, especially when you’re younger, but spotting for that long and then getting heavier sounds like something worth talking to a doctor about.

The dizziness, nausea and feeling like you were going to throw up during skating would also make me want to get checked, especially since you’re active and exercise a lot.

It could be something simple, but there are a lot of different reasons for irregular bleeding, so I wouldn’t try to figure it out just from Google. If you can, I’d talk to your parent or another adult you trust and make an appointment with a doctor.

Hopefully it turns out to be nothing serious, but I think it’s better to know for sure than keep worrying about it.

Yeah, I agree. Everyone’s periods can be pretty different, so I guess it’s hard to say what’s normal for someone else.

Going six months without a period and then suddenly having really heavy bleeding sounds scary though. I’m glad you found something that works for you now.

I’d probably get it checked too if I was worried, especially if the bleeding keeps happening or feels different than usual. Even if everything is fine, at least you’d know what’s going on instead of sitting there Googling everything and getting a million different answers 😂
