Teen Chat Rules and Regulations

Welcome to Teen Chat! This is a place for teenagers to meet, talk and have fun. These rules apply everywhere on Teen Chat: the main chat, side rooms, private messages, profiles and the forums. By using Teen Chat, you agree to follow them.

Age

• Teen Chat is only for teens aged 13 to 19. If you are younger than 13 or older than 19, please leave now. Anyone outside this age range will be permanently banned and may be reported to law enforcement.
• Do not lie or joke about your age.
• When looking for people to chat with, give an age range, not "older" or "younger". Say "anyone 17-19", not "anyone over 17".
• For your safety, a setting that stops older members from private messaging younger members is turned on by default.

Keep It Clean

Teen Chat is a clean, safe-for-work community. Keep everything PG-13.

Not allowed:
• Sexual talk or sexual behavior of any kind, including "horny" messages, fetishes or kinks, sub/dom, top/bottom, master/slave, BDSM, DDLG or littlespace talk.
• Sexual roleplay or age play.
• Asking for, offering, trading or swapping nude or sexual pictures or videos.
• Sexual or "nudified" AI images, or editing someone else's photo to make it sexual.
• Incest or sexual talk involving family members, including family roleplay or stories.
• Bestiality.
• Joking about or making light of rape.
• Real gore, violent or shocking images and videos.
• Promoting drugs, alcohol, vaping, weapons, real-money gambling or any other illegal activity.
• Inappropriate requests, including "babysitting" talk, asking about family members, and inappropriate truth or dare.
• Inappropriate GIFs, memes, drawings, voice messages or profile music.
• Hate symbols, and flashing or strobing images.

Child sexual abuse material (CSAM): posting, trading, offering or asking for any sexual content involving minors leads to an immediate permanent ban and a report to law enforcement and child protection agencies, such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Respect Everyone

• No bullying, harassment, insults or trolling.
• No hate speech or discrimination, including racism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism. Slurs are not allowed, even when "censored".
• No threats of any kind. Never tell anyone to "kill yourself" or "kys".
• No blackmail, hacking or doxxing threats.
• Do not falsely accuse others of being a pedophile, overage or a catfish. If you think someone is, report them and let the moderators check.
• Do not pretend to be a moderator or give other users warnings ("minimodding").
• Do not copy the name or look of another user, a staff member or a bot.

Language and Topics

• English only in the main chat. Other languages are fine in private messages if both people agree, or in a side room made for that language.
• Politics, religion and other heated topics are not allowed in the main chat. Take them to private messages or a side room made for them, and move on if a moderator asks.
• Do not start conversations about suicide, self-harm, abuse or drugs, and never post images of self-harm.
• If you are struggling or thinking about hurting yourself, you are not in trouble. Please talk to a moderator or someone you trust. In the US, call or text 988. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
• Any other topic is welcome as long as it follows these rules.

Protect Your Privacy

• Never post personal information about yourself or anyone else. That means full names, addresses, schools, phone numbers and email addresses, in chat, private messages, moods or bios.
• No social media usernames or links in public chat rooms. Be very careful sharing them in private messages, and never share them with someone you don't know well.
• No asking for meetups or hookups.
• No asking for or offering phone calls, video calls or cam chats on other apps (for example Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, Kik or Whereby).
• Do not ask other members for their personal information, such as where they live or go to school.
• Do not share someone's private messages, screenshots or voice messages to embarrass them.
• Do not record or share voice calls without everyone's permission.
• Never share your password or account. Staff will never ask for your password.

No Spam, Scams or Advertising

• No spamming or flooding: posting lots of messages quickly, or repeating the same message. No excessive caps.
• No links. The only exception is YouTube links, which VIP members may post.
• No advertising or promoting other chat sites, servers, apps, social media accounts, products or services.
• Do not invite people to group chats on other apps.
• Do not mention file-sharing, cam or private messaging services used to trade content. These include MEGA, Dropbox, Wickr, Unsee, Volafile, Telegram, TeleGuard, Session and similar. Mentioning them or trading leads to a ban and may be reported to law enforcement.
• No selling content, "e-whoring" or asking for or offering money, gift cards, gold, VIP or gifts.
• No scams, phishing, or asking people to log in anywhere else.

Profiles and Usernames

• All chat rules apply to your username, profile picture, background picture, mood, bio and profile music.
• Usernames must be appropriate and easy to read: no special-character fonts and no invisible names.
• Do not change your username while you are muted.
• No nude or inappropriate profile or background pictures.
• No pictures of children under 13 on your profile.
• No catfishing. Do not pretend to be someone else, or use someone else's photo and claim it is you. If you use a picture from the internet, say so in your bio (for example, "profile pic not me").
• One identity per person. Do not use extra accounts with different ages, genders or identities, or to get around a mute, kick or ban.

Side Rooms

• All main chat rules apply in side rooms. The only exception is when a room is made for a specific purpose, such as a language or debate room.
• Inappropriate rooms will be deleted, and action may be taken against the room owner and anyone taking part.
• Room staff must moderate their room. Leaving rule-breaking content up can cost you your room staff rank or get the room deleted.

VIP and Gold

• VIP does not put you above the rules. Mutes, kicks and bans still apply.
• Everything you post with VIP features must follow these rules. That includes uploads, drawings, voice messages and audio calls: no nudity, inappropriate or controversial images, social media names or slurs, and voice messages in the main chat must be in English.
• Buying VIP or gold with someone else's bank card or payment account without permission is fraud and will be reported to law enforcement.

VPNs and Proxies

• VPNs and proxies are generally not allowed, and most are blocked automatically. You do not need one: we only ask for the information needed to use the chat.
• Using a VPN, proxy or new account to get around a ban is not allowed.

How We Keep Teen Chat Safe

• Human moderators watch the chat, review reports and take action.
• Known child sexual abuse material is blocked automatically using hash matching, and AI screens uploaded images for nudity. No system is perfect, so please report anything that gets through.
• Automated systems check public and private messages for signs of grooming, scams and illegal activity. Evidence of criminal activity may be shared with law enforcement.
• We report illegal content to law enforcement and child protection agencies, and we share information with law enforcement when legally required.
• Chat messages are subject to automatic removal, so please report problems as soon as you see them.

Stay Safe

• Keep your conversations on Teen Chat, where our rules and moderators can help protect you. We cannot see or enforce our rules on other apps or websites, and are not responsible for what happens there.
• People who want to harm young people often try to move the chat to social media or messaging apps, offer gifts or money, or ask you to keep secrets. If anyone does this, report them right away.
• Never click links or add social media accounts sent to you by people you don't know. Many are bots trying to scam you, sell illegal content or blackmail you.

How to Report

• Report a chat message: click the three dots (...) beside the message and choose Report, then pick the reason. For anything about a child's safety, choose Child safety concern. See how to report, step by step, with pictures.
• Report a private message: click the gear icon in the private chat and choose Report.
• Report a profile: click the flag icon on their profile.
• Contact a moderator: moderators have a shield icon beside their name and appear at the top of the user list. You can private message them.
• Ignore someone: open their profile and choose Ignore, and you will no longer see their messages.
• You can also report problems or give feedback in the Teen Chat Forums.
• Screenshots can help, but we do not accept a screenshot alone as proof, because they are easy to fake.

If you see sexual content involving a child (CSAM):
• Do NOT open, save, forward or screenshot it. Doing so may be illegal.
• Do not reply to, confront or investigate the person.
• Note the username and the time, then report it straight away using the report tools and choose Child safety concern.

Enforcement

• Moderators may warn, mute, kick or ban depending on how serious the problem is. Serious violations lead to an immediate permanent ban.
• Repeat offenders will be banned, even for minor rules.
• Follow all moderator instructions. Harassing moderators is not allowed.
• Do not make false reports against users or staff.
• Moderators may act on behavior that puts others at risk even if it is not listed here.
• If you believe action was taken against you by mistake, contact us through our Contact Us page or the forums.
• We may update these rules at any time. Please check back regularly.
