Why: Because this is an international chat site, meaning everyone should be able to understand each other.
Which extent: In all permanent rooms as well as pms, English is the only allowed language.
You may think that if it is international, it would make sense to speak multiple languages, but that is also why it would be an issue. Imagine you are a new users or just went online. You check main and people are speaking languages you do not understand. How would you be able to join in? You can not. The point is, it is harder to join a conversation when there is a wide variety of languages spoken. Conversations could die quicker and they would probably be fewer. English is the most well known language, and therefore it is fitting to choose English as our regular language.
All rules, homepage, blog and more are also written in English. So in order to use the site and rooms, you would need to understand English either way.
You can speak other languages in rooms named with a specific language, such as Hindi Room, Spanish Room or Japanese Room. If there is another language you and your friends want to speak, you can create (VIP feature) one yourself.
Another important aspect is that staff have limited language knowledge. Even if some mods are multilingual, they cannot understand each language. This is why we have limited permission for use of other languages. From now on, PMs in other languages will no longer be allowed. If you report a conversation where you and the other user spoke a different language, you will both be kicked. This is due to our limited time and lack of understanding. However, we will try to monitor language rooms as much as we can
